Festival at the Architectural Museum

This was the festival at the Architectural Museum. We arrived at the tail-end of the taiko drummers. They're always fun to watch.
We sat on these benches to partake in some sake. It seemed like the thing to do!
Gen buying the sake at the old soy sauce shop.
They used the traditional square cedar cups, called masu. The cup is filled over the brim and the excess sake goes onto a little plate or saucer. In theory, you're supposed to drink the sake from the plate first, then sip from the cup. However, I am supremely uncoordinated so I managed to spill both the sake from the cup and from the plate. Something that they did here that we've never seen before is to serve little cups of salt with the sake. You put a pinch of salt on the rim, like a margarita. It was really good.
I just thought this group looked like fun. I'm not sure of the significance of the crown and face paint, but after two sakes I was ready to get my face painted. Unfortunately, the face painting booth was shut down.
The bon odori dance. Gen said this is like Japan's version of the electric slide- everyone knows it.
More dancing. I thought it was just one dance, but there are several.
This is just cute.
Gen made some tiny friends.
More festival food! My favorite, grilled corn. And....
KFC! We actually went to the KFC booth, but just for something to drink. Surprisingly (wink, wink), there were no lines for KFC.
