In the past 3 days we have experienced some of the fun weather patterns of Japan. Our first earthquake was on Sunday night. It was a 6.9 off the coast. I was in the middle of e-mailing my mom and the sofa started bouncing. Gen was in the kitchen heating up some food for dinner and didn't even feel it until the walls actually started moving. It only lasted a minute or so and really wasn't that bad. I say that in retrospect, I was actually totally freaked out. But there was barely anything on the news, only a short story on one channel. Gen's boss from High Point called to make sure we were ok, which was very nice of him.
So yesterday we got the remnants of a typhoon. It's basically what we get at home at the tail end of a hurricane. Just lots and lots of rain. It wasn't too windy. We spent most of the day at Tokyo Midtown, an upscale (indoor) shopping center. This morning was another earthquake. It was really early, at about 5:00 am, so we were still sleeping. Actually, I thought I had dreamed it when I woke up this morning. This one was a 6.5, but the epicenter was closer to Tokyo, so there was more damage and the news is paying more attention to it today. Gen slept through the whole thing. So we're safe, never fear!
