A good souvenir

A couple of weekends ago we went to a street festival and found our first souvenir. There was a tent set up with some of the most beautiful kimonos and obis. We bought an obi (sash for kimono) to hang on the wall of our brand new North Carolina house.

We got the black on with gold embroidery that's in the middle of the picture above. Gen bargained, so we got a good price. I really liked the top obi. You can't really tell, but it has a gorgeous scene of a tree and creek embroidered on it. But it was significantly more expensive, plus Gen liked this one better. I let him win sometimes.

  2. I keep hearing about how expensive and small apartments and houses are in Japan and especially in Tokyo. How does your apartment compare in size and convenience to what you were used to in the US? Without being too intrusive, could we see pics of your living quarters?

  3. Sure, I'll take some pictures and post them. The apartment here is just over 500 square feet. Exactly half the size of our High Point place. It doesn't seem too small though. It's good there are only 2 of us. If the dog was here I think it would be more crowded. Convenience-wise it can't be beat. We're close to the train and subway, there are tons of stores and restaurants, and we have a 7-11 right outside the door for when we get late-night ice cream attacks.
